Across youth soccer fields, a new menace has emerged – armed with Stanley cups, Pinterest affirmations, and the delusional belief that their 9-year-old is the next Alex Morgan.
Local referees are reportedly seeking witness protection after discovering that girl soccer moms are not only real – but significantly worse than the boy ones.
“I used to ref boys’ games,” said Illinois referee Dale Whitaker, his voice trembling. “Those parents just yelled ‘Shoot!’ or complained about offside. These new ones have PowerPoints about D1 scholarships. One mom told me her daughter’s left foot was a ‘brand asset.’”
Sociologists call it SUV Syndrome – a national psychosis where some suburban women project their unfulfilled ambitions onto small, mildly coordinated girls in pink cleats after witnessing the global explosion of women’s soccer.
One coach from Chicago’s under-12 league described a recent incident: “I told the girls to stay in their positions. One mom accused me of patriarchal conditioning. Another said I was gaslighting her daughter by rotating her roles. Then one of them called me Pep Guardiola like it was an insult.”
“We had one mom try to sub her daughter in herself,” he added. “She claimed she had tactical authority because she read Abby Wambach’s Wolfpack twice.”
Even the girls are starting to snap. One local 10-year-old striker reportedly feigned injury to avoid another car ride meltdown about ‘visualizing the Olympics.’
The U.S. Soccer Federation has issued new sideline guidelines, which have been predictably ignored by a select few.
Meanwhile, fathers have begun forming Dad Safe Zones – quiet sanctuaries where they can discuss the matches without being accused of mansplaining.
When asked for comment, one mother at a tournament in Jackson Park said, “She’s easily the best player out there. These coaches know nothing. They’re all the same – go baby!” before sprinting down the sideline. Moments later, her daughter was nutmegged by a kid who’d been dropped off by her Abuela.
